ABOUT OUR
NON-PROFIT
We are a 501(c)(3) volunteer-based non-profit organization committed to providing services and activities that promote education on self-improvement and that help others achieve a state of greater physical, mental/spiritual, and social well-being.
SOCIAL SERVICE
We have supported and currently support, with financial donations resulting from volunteer-based fundraising events, donations of food or other material donations, and/or with our volunteer work multiple organizations and projects that share our values and that contribute to our local communities.
UMBANDA
We offer weekly religious services within the framework of Umbanda, an afro-Brazilian religion widely popular in Brazil but with little representation in the US. These services are held in Portuguese and in English. We welcome members of the Brazilian community as well as all others who are interested in learning with us.

Project Fios de Luz
The Inner Empowerment Center, a volunteer-based non-profit organization located in Torrance, promotes activities that help individuals achieve a state of greater physical, mental/spiritual, and social well-being.
These activities focus on three key areas: opportunities to learn, opportunities to serve, and opportunities for creative expression. The project “Fios de Luz” (Portuguese for “threads of light”) touches on all such areas.
Volunteers learn to crochet or expand on their abilities to crochet to create beanies to be donated to oncology patients at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
Since 2021, the group of volunteers was able to crochet over 600 unique, handmade beanies. This is the project’s fourth year. The volunteers’ group is growing and the production of a fourth batch of beanies to be donated in October 2025 is almost ready! All participants feel very grateful to be part of this project and to contribute in such a small and symbolic way to each patient’s journey.
